HIPAA Statement

The Health Insurance Portability And Accountability Act of 1996, Public Law 104-191 of the 104th Congress, was implemented to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to improve portability and continuity of health insurance coverage in the group and individual markets, to combat waste, fraud, and abuse in health insurance and health care delivery, to promote the use of medical savings accounts, to improve access to long-term care services and coverage, to simplify the administration of health insurance, and for other purposes.

MI LifeNet was designed, developed and tested to exceed all requirements of information privacy, availability, integrity (system and data), confidentiality, access control, accountability, authenticity, and Non-Repudiation that would be placed on it by the present or foreseeable future implementations of the Act.

In the design and development MI LifeNet, work was based on government and international widely accepted information protection standards. The US Government Trusted Computer System Evaluation Criteria standard, Controlled Access Protection (C2), the International Common Criteria, Controlled Access Protection Profile, and the Health Care Protection Profile that was prepared by ARCA Systems (ARCA) under funding by the National Information Assurance Partnership under contract MDA904-99-P-7123 were utilized as a basis for the information protection schema.
